MacStitch or WinStitch 2010
Problem: Pages print very large
Cause:    Some printers have a setting that allows you to change the size of the printed image, and make it different from the size that the application has requested. These settings are described as ’scale to fit’/ ‘print full size’ and similar. If the printer is not set to make the image fit the page, the high quality output from our app can be printed at several times the size it should be.
Solution:  Set the printer settings correctly. Some examples are shown below.

WinStitch 2010 (6.4 and earlier)
Problem: Screen updates very slowly after clicking mouse
Cause:    Windows AERO effects on certain graphics cards
Solution:  Disable AERO effects, either permanently, or just for WinStitch.
It is possible to have Windows do this automatically, by changing the properties.

To do this, navigate to the Program Files/WinStitch folder, and right click on WinStitch.exe
Choose Properties.
Then tick the boxes shown below (administrator level is not strictly required):

Release 6.5 (April/May 2010) will do this for you automatically as a user preference.
WinStitch 2009/2010
Problem: Help fails to appear
Cause:    The help/manual is provided as a PDF file. If your computer does not have a PDF reader installed (most do), then the file will not open.
Solution:  Download a free PDF reader. Whilst the standard is Adobe Acrobat, we recommend Foxit PDF reader as it is smaller and faster.

MacStitch 2009/2010 (release 6.3 and earlier)
Problem: Pages fail to print correctly when HP printer is used
Cause:    HP printers seem to have a severe lack of memory, which causes blank pages or other strange effects. The problem suddenly got worse under SnowLeopard. Despite new drivers from HP, there is still an intermittent problem on some machines that we are investigating, but may be powerless to fix.
Solution:  Affected users should be able to create PDF files from the File menu, and print those. Alternatively, upgrade to a later version. (Free for 2010 users, or a small fee for MacStitch owners earlier than November 2009)

WinStitch 2010 (any)
Problem: AppearancePak.dll reported as a potential virus by F-Prot Virus Checker
Cause:    F-Prot is incorrect
Solution:  Send a zipped copy of the DLL to F-Prot and advise this is not a virus.

MacStitch 2009/2008
Problem: Error when printing
Cause:    Changing print settings in rapid succession
Solution:  Slow down :) , or upgrade to 2010

MacStitch 2009
Problem: 'Unable to allocate enough memory to run effectively'
Cause:    Program has been moved out of its folder.
Solution:  Move the app back into the macstitch folder, then click on the app and choose 'make alias' from the finder menu. Drag the alias to the desktop instead.

MacStitch /WinStitch
Problem: Printout is different color from the screen
Cause:    By design, every thread has an alternate color, for printing purposes, which lets you print using a color that is easier to see than the ‘real’ color. For instance you may have a very pale yellow which is difficult to see, and choose to print this as blue. (some people use this to print charts in color which are difficult to photocopy). By accident or design, these alternate colors are different from the real colors in your chart.
Solution:  Use Palette menu/Alternate Symbol Colors/Reset To Original Thread Color

MacStitch 2009
Problem: Unable to see/open my charts after downloading new version
Cause:    Older versions of MacStitch did not enforce the use of .CHART on the end of the file names. The new browser with built-in preview is looking for files called .chart
Solution:  MacStitch 2009 forces .chart on the end of any charts you save. Rename older charts to give them a .chart extension. Alternatively, use the preferences option to set ‘use normal open dialog’, which reverts to the standard OSX file selector.

MacStitch 2009
Problem: Application does not work in English/French/German/Dutch
Cause:    Unknown. The application should detect your chosen language automatically.
Solution:  Use ‘Get Info’ on the MacStitch2009.app file, and expand the ‘Languages’ option. Untick languages you do not want to use.

X-Stitch Studio (and Simplicity)

Problem: Screen does not draw properly: grid is missing or blocks do not display.
Cause:    Out of date version of the file XSE32.DLL
Solution:  Search for and delete or rename all copies of XSE32.DLL on your machine, then run this updater software to correct it.

Problem: Program asks for Ursa Software font every time it starts
Cause:     Font not registered properly
Solution:  Search for URSA.TTF file on your computer, and drag it into the FONTS folder in Windows, or use the FONTS item in Control Panel to add it to your list, or run this updater to install it.

Problem: File Open/Save dialogs do not display or preview properly
Cause:    Incompatible DLL on system
Solution:  Open the edit/preferences dialog. Go to the General tab. Select a different style of file dialog from the 3 alternatives.

Problem: Help does not work properly on some machines. (esp Vista)
Cause:    Changes to the help system in Windows
Solution:  Instead of using the menu, press F1 instead. Note that in Vista, the help program that Windows uses to display help has been removed completely. You can either add the help program back to Windows using this link, or use the MANUAL.PDF file we have also provided, which contains the same text but as a PDF file.
Note: In the currently shipping version of Studio, the installer and help file have been re-written and now work fine in Vista.  Please email us (with your version number) if you are a registered user and wish to update your copy.
